Contact Intelligence is the ability to manipulate the physical world through rich, sustained contact. It is not yet a field with shared definitions, shared instruments, or shared data. Our mission is to build that foundation.
Why foundations come first
The foundational work in a new field rarely survives a product roadmap. Definitions, measurements, datasets, and reference hardware are expensive to produce, yet everything built afterward depends on them. CLAVIR exists to build that layer properly and to make it usable across the field.
Three pillars, one problem
Contact Intelligence cannot be reached by advancing hardware, data, or model architecture in isolation. We treat them as a single problem and build all three together.
Hands built to seek and sustain contact rather than avoid it — and to make what happens during that contact observable.
Data that captures sustained physical interaction, not just the collision-free trajectories between contacts.
Models whose representations and objectives are built around contact, instead of treating it as noise to be suppressed.
Foundations, not demonstrations
A demonstration shows that something is possible once. A foundation lets other people do it repeatedly. We measure our work by whether others can build on it: hardware they can reproduce, data they can use, and architectures they can test against their own.
